Blood tests help your doctor check how your body is working, from anaemia and infection to blood sugar, cholesterol and organ function. Most need only a small sample from a vein in your arm and take a few minutes to collect.

| Test | What it checks |
|---|---|
| Full blood count (FBC) | Red cells, white cells, haemoglobin and platelets. Checks for anaemia, infection and general health. |
| Packed cell volume (PCV) | The proportion of red blood cells in your blood; often used to check for anaemia. |
| ESR | Erythrocyte sedimentation rate, a general marker of inflammation. |
| C-reactive protein (CRP) | A marker of inflammation or infection in the body. |
| Fasting / random blood sugar | Blood glucose level, for screening and monitoring diabetes. |
| Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) | How your body handles sugar over two hours. Used to check for diabetes, including in pregnancy. |
| HbA1c | Average blood sugar over roughly the past three months. |
| Lipid profile | Cholesterol (HDL, LDL) and triglycerides, for heart health. |
| Liver function test (LFT) | Enzymes and proteins that show how well your liver is working. |
| Kidney function (E/U/Cr) | Electrolytes, urea and creatinine: how well your kidneys are working. |
| Uric acid | Raised levels are linked to gout and kidney stones. |
| Serum calcium | Calcium level for bones, muscles, nerves and some hormone conditions. |
| Serum ferritin / iron studies | Your body's iron stores. Helps explain some types of anaemia. |
| Clotting profile (PT/INR) | How quickly your blood clots, before surgery or when on blood thinners. |
| Blood group & genotype | Your ABO/Rhesus blood group and haemoglobin genotype (AA, AS, SS…). |
| Blood grouping & crossmatch | Checks donor and recipient blood compatibility. Ask us before you come. |
